Who Needs Trip Advisor?! Some More Responsible Alternatives
After yesterday's blog, where our friends at Trip Advisor were deemed to be as responsible as an ASBO teen, I went to look for alternative review sites that allow hotels to be listed and reviewed for free
They won't beat Trip Advisor in its sheer volume of reviews and therefore its SEO, but it's surely worth a crack putting your hotel on. The important thing to remember it doesn't matter where your reviews are, as you can use your own site/social networks to send people to find them. Consumer confidence is not so high in Trip Advisor that guests won't have confidence in other sources. Everyone knows they have issues.
Trivago.co.uk have an impressive strapline: 'Present your hotel free of charge on Europe's largest travel community' - that sounds pretty good to me! It claims to have 10 million hotels on there too. Trivago is free to list and also offers a widget to pop on your site, similar to the popular TA one.
holidaycheck.com has reviews from over a million people and is also free to use. I can't tell you if they will be as unresponsive to problems as TA but they certainly look like an organized outfit in the about us section
globalhotelreview.com set up by our friend and Nawaar Alsadi who claims TA 'trashed' his hotel with a fake review, Nawaar is certainly serious about being a responsible vehicle for hotels. Read their hotel owner bill of rights to see how serious he is.
ukhotellistings.co.uk is a small site but has a telephone number (weyhey!) and has a nice look and feel to it. I couldn't find any user reviews but they do claim to use user content.
An important thing to look out for is that Trip Advisor do own lots of websites so when searching for an alternative make sure it's not ran by them or you'll be in the same boat with poor customer service.
